Chinook Salmon information for the 2010 season for Idaho
Our rivers saw a huge run of Chinook jacks in 2009 which have been a predictor of the next year run of spring salmon. .
Fisheries managers are taking an average of a number of potential run size predictions - even with a relative conservative prediction they feel the 2010 season may be the largest Spring Chinook Salmon on record.
Harvests in the lower Columbia river will be reduced to allow more fish for the upriver anglers. This is great news for fishermen in Idaho as this should give us a longer season and perhaps more fish per person.
We anticipate booking out the prime dates quickly as anglers start looking at this spring fishery. We have limited openings in the historic peak period so those who book early will assure their fishing dates.

Depending on the year, size of springers can vary considerably depending on their age class.
The pattern of travel for salmon is fast and they do not remain in an area for long. The goal of these fish is to reach their spawning area as fast as possible.
While fishing the lower river you will have fish entering in pods (groups of fish traveling together). Fishing can be fast and furious and then strikes subside until another Pod travels through.
Spring Chinook Salmon is one of the most sought after fish on the west coast and the Clearwater has been a good producer for anglers over the years.
