The Clearwater River draws anglers into Idaho each year to fish for the famous B-Run steelhead. These fish spend at least two years in the ocean before making their way back to Idaho. It is during those years they gain the extra size that makes them true trophies.
B-Run Steelhead average from about 12 lbs to 15 lbs, with the occasional fish going 20 lbs or more. It is not uncommon for fish of this size to be taken....It doesn't happen every day but often enough that at any time an angler could experience that catch of a life time.

September through March are consistent producing months for Clearwater Steelhead. The weather in the Lewis-Clark area tends to be relatively mild throughout the winter, and there are generally no breaks in fishing due to river icing. Some of the most productive fishing occurs late in the year when the fish are holding in the slow deeper areas of the river.
Steelhead fishing does become more of a challenge as the water gets winter cold. The bite becomes very soft and patience is the key to hooking fish. Those who brave the winter months are rewarded with fewer anglers on the river. Many fishermen find this period their favorite time to be on the water.
